The induction of office bearers and new members took place at Bathurst RSL with guests and parents of the inductees in attendance.
Guests included assistant district governor Miles Hedge from the Rotary Club of Blayney, district youth director Debbie Schache from the Rotary Club of Bathurst Daybreak and Denison College Kelso Campus principal Mick Sloan.
Mr Sloan told the gathering how proud he was of this group of students, all of whom also belong to the Cirkus Surreal program. He said he loved the connection with Rotary because of what the students will learn from the ideals of Rotary.
Assistant governor Miles Hedge spoke of the 112-year history of Rotary and the motto of “Service above self”.
He said there were 460,000 young people in 20,000 Interact clubs around the world. All are sponsored by Rotary.
He also pointed out that links have already been forged with the Interact club of Hawaii. In fact, when Cirkus Surreal tours Hawaii next year, the Interactors will be home hosted through this link.
After being inducted as Interact Club president, Dayna Willott talked about future plans for the club, in particular mentioning that the junior circus program in Hawaii was struggling to maintain funds, and that the club members had decided to undertake fundraising activities to support the Hawaiian students.
Dayna also expressed a desire for the Interact Club to help organise a ball in Bathurst to recognise the contribution made by volunteers in Bathurst who give up their time for the benefit of the community.
