Bathurst’s boys didn’t drop an entire game throughout the pool stage before they booked a spot in the division three final courtesy of a thrilling 5-all draw with Goulburn.
In the decider Bathurst were a cut above. They accounted for Port Macquarie Hastings 5-2 to bring home the trophy.
Assistant tournament director Ange Brown said the Bathurst boys can be proud of their unbeaten run.
“The boys won all of their pool games and were really great in the final. Now they’ll make the step up from division three to division two next year,” she said.
“It’s impressive because it’s not even a form of the game that any of them had played before. It was completely new for all of them.
“We then got the great news that Fletcher Norris had been selected for the state team.”
The Bathurst girls side enjoyed their share of success at the tournament as they finished third in their pool.
The team went down to Metro South West 2 (4-0) and Illawarra South Coast 2 (1-0) but were far too strong for both Central Coast 3 (8-1) and Central West rivals Parkes (5-0).
“They’re a very young team,” Brown said of the Bathurst girls.
“They went from knowing very little about the indoor game to understanding it well.
“They came away in sixth but that’s still a great effort. Most of them will be back to play next year.”
