Blake Dean to play for country success as part of ACT/Southern side

BATHURST’S Western Zone representatives may be out of contention for NSW Country Championship glory, but there is another man who is hoping to find success in the annual competition.

COUNTRY TIME: Blake Dean will play at the Country Championships.

COUNTRY TIME: Blake Dean will play at the Country Championships.

Former Rugby Union Cricket Club all-rounder and Bathurst District Cricket Association representative Blake Dean now plays his club cricket for Weston Creek Molonglo in the ACT Premier competition.

This season Dean has claimed 11 wickets and scored 236 runs across the Twenty20 and and one-day competitions, those efforts seeing him get the nod from ACT/Southern coach Kyle Piper.

He will play three games in the Southern Pool of the competition – against Riverina, Illawarra and Central Coast - with Newcastle having claimed Northern Pool honours over Western last Sunday.

The winners of each pool will contest a grand final on November 26 at Bradman Oval, Bowral.

“This competition provides an opportunity for players to test themselves against some challenging opponents,” Piper said.

“It is a great experience for some of our players to be challenged against seasoned country cricketers.

“As a group, we are working towards competing in each and every moment and every opportunity we may get. Good players compete sometimes, great players compete all the time.  We never know when our opportunity may come, that is irrelevant, it is our job to be ready to grab that opportunity when it arises.”
