Stride4stroke is the Stroke Foundation’s annual campaign to raise much needed funds and awareness to prevent, treat and beat stroke.
The Bathurst group decided to extend its usual meeting to include a walk from Bathurst RSL Club to the Machattie Park pond and back again.
Sue Bowden said members of the group, supporters and representatives of the Stroke Foundation and Stroke Recovery Foundation took part in the walk.
“We met prior to our monthly meeting and we’ve walked together to Machattie Park with our #fightstroke batons to raise awareness about stroke,” she said.
“It was a very inclusive morning; it was lovely to have people from Sydney join us.”
After walking back to the RSL, the group enjoyed a healthy morning tea sponsored by Bathurst Rotary Club.
Michelle Sharkey from the Stroke Recovery Foundation NSW attended to talk about stroke and also help them learn more about promoting their local club.
Stroke is one of Australia’s biggest killers and a leading cause of disability.
There will be more than 56,000 new and recurrent strokes in 2017.
