A fundraiser, which offered weekend visitors to the centre the chance to purchase bacon and egg rolls, has raised $1000 during the past three months.

Recently, Kirkconnell staff members Susie McLean and Penny Wellings paid a visit to headspace Bathurst to hand over the funds.

“This initiative has been widely supported by staff and the inmate support networks, and will continue on a regular basis,” Ms McLean said.

She said all funds raised through the initiative would be donated to local charities and headspace Bathurst was the first recipient.

headspace Bathurst program manager Nicki Halliwell said the team were honoured to be the first charity recipient.

“We are very thankful to the staff and inmates at Kirkconnell, and so pleased that we were the first to receive such a donation,” she said.

“It shows how supportive other organisations in Bathurst are towards youth mental health services in our community.”

Ms McLean said Kirkconnell’s fundraising events and activities would continue in the future.

“It enhances strong staff morale, a team environment and a sense of community,” she said.
