It’s hoped that a competition run across three different age groups can give Bathurst girls an opportunity to play rugby union against other clubs.
Bathurst Bulldogs junior girls coordinator Mandy Scott said its vital the region’s girls get the opportunity to keep playing once they enter their teenage years.
“At the moment we’re thinking of running age groups in under 13s, 15s and 17s. Orange and Mudgee are also looking to get teams together,” she said.
“In Bathurst we’d be competing against other winter sports but we’re hopeful that a lot of girls will be interested in playing.
“Currently there’s no Central West competition for girls aged between 12 and 18 so we’d love to fill that void.”
Whether the format for the competition will be 15-a-side or rugby sevens is yet to be decided.
