I encourage everyone to drop in and say hello to Santa after school or on the way home from work and to please support local families in need by popping a gift under the tree to be donated to Veritas House.
The activity will feature Santa’s workshop, the opportunity for children to send a letter to the North Pole, face-painting and a barbecue.
Artstate on way
BATHURST was announced last weekend as the next regional city to host Artstate, a three-day series of events celebrating regional arts in NSW.
The event will bring a stimulating program of regional, national speakers and performers to Bathurst.
Artstate is a four-year initiative by Regional Arts NSW to shine a light on excellence in regional arts practice and to explore the exciting possibilities for arts and cultural development across the state.
A curated arts program will provide an opportunity to see the best that regional NSW has to offer.
The program includes all forms of art and brings together hundreds of artists, producers and key people in arts support, development and thinking for three days where the spotlight is put on a selected region of NSW.
This is an exciting opportunity for our region.
Next year’s event has the capacity to showcase Bathurst as a centre of cultural excellence, adding to our city’s excellent repertoire of cultural events, facilities and performers.

Sports clubs can apply for funding for a lifesaver
I’M calling on all sports clubs in the electorate to apply for co-funding for a defibrillator under the NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program.
More than 2500 automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) will be rolled out across the state over the next four years and I encourage all local sporting clubs to take this opportunity to apply for a grant to help fund an AED, which can be the difference between life and death.
The program will fund up to 50 per cent of the defibrillator cost, along with training and maintenance support.
The $4 million program will make sporting fields safer for thousands of players and spectators. More than 33,000 Australians experience cardiac arrest every year, and the first eight minutes are critical to improving the likelihood of survival.
The scheme is targeting community sports clubs, but applications from licensed sporting clubs and sports organisations associated with schools, churches, universities and councils will also be considered. Applications close December 20. Visit sport.nsw.gov.au/clubs/grants
Legal diaries for seniors
I’M encouraging all seniors to pick up a free diary that will help them understand their rights under the law and plan the year ahead. This popular and informative diary from Legal Aid NSW is packed with useful tips that will help seniors protect their rights and make the most of 2018.
The diary explains a wide range of legal issues, from retirement villages and tenancy rights to age discrimination, the effect of gift-giving on pension entitlements, and ways to make sure your pet is taken care of if you can no longer look after them.
This year’s diary also includes tips for anyone considering becoming a guarantor for a home loan or entering into a ‘granny flat’ arrangement.
The 2018 Legal Topics for Older People Diary is available from my Bathurst electorate office, Legal Aid NSW offices, local libraries and some community organisations. Visit www.legalaid.nsw.gov.au/publications/order-a-publication and search for ‘diary’.
