It took NSW two innings to draw dead level with Tasmania’s 4-392 at Blundstone Arena, with totals of 208 and 184 all out.
The Blues showed little resistance with the bat after being forced to follow on by the hosts.
Only Peter Nevill (70) kept NSW’s slim hopes of a draw alive as the rest of the team fell around the wicketkeeper.
Copeland was removed for four while Doug Bollinger provided an entertaining innings of 26 not out to level the scores.
The Bathurst bowler opened the attack for NSW as the Tasmanians searched for a single run to win.
On just the second ball of the over Jordan Silk hit Copeland to the boundary to end the match.
NSW now have the Christmas break period to look forward to before facing Western Australia at the WACA on February 8.
