Construction of the reservoir started in April, 2016, to ensure there was a water supply to service 4000 new residences in the north-east of Kelso from Sofala Road to Limekilns Road.

The reservoir is 13 metres high, has a diameter of 33 metres and can hold 10 million litres of water.
Mayor Graeme Hanger said it was important step at a time when Bathurst is expanding.
“The reservoir is an important addition to cater to our region's growing population,” he said.
“The $10 million project has the capability to service up to 10,000 people in 4000 new residences.”
He said Bathurst Regional Council has no plans at this stage to build another water reservoir elsewhere in the city.
