As Parade was walking through the supermarket on Monday – on January 1, that is – he had to do a double-take when he saw hot cross buns already for sale.
The buns are traditionally associated with Easter – particularly Good Friday, which was still 88 days away at that point.
A quick online search back at the office, however, revealed that Bathurst is far from alone in this one.
Plenty of people had posted photos of hot cross buns on social media even before the new year ticked over.
It seems as soon as Christmas is done and dusted the supermarkets are already looking to the next big seller.
But Parade also read another theory for the hot cross buns appearing so early – to foster some outrage on social media that ultimately becomes some free advertising for the supermarket.
If that’s the case, then Parade has fallen for the trick as well.
