MORE than $600,000 worth of heritage projects are currently under way across the Bathurst region with support from the Bathurst Region Local Heritage Fund.

Each year, Bathurst Regional Council - with the support of the NSW Heritage Division - offers small grants to property owners for maintenance works on older buildings.
Eligible projects are usually offered grants of between $300 and $2000, but not exceeding 50 per cent of the total value of the project.
A report to councillors by environmental, planning and building services director Neil Southorn has listed some of the recent achievements of the Bathurst Region Heritage Reference Group, including 77 projects being offered funding under the heritage fund in 2017-18.
Other key achievements include:
- 12 conservation and interpretation projects being offered funding under the Bathurst Region Conservation and Interpretation Fund, with an estimated value of $111,798.
- The Bathurst CBD Main Street Fund for 2017-2018 is underway with 19 projects being offered funding for main street improvement works to the Bathurst CBD, generating an estimate total value of works of $465,531.
- Council’s Heritage Advisory Service has undertaken 69 site inspections undertaken in this financial year to date, an increase from the previous financial year.
- Near completion of the Main Street Study Review providing a statement of significance and building recommendations for all of the Bathurst CBD.
- The completion of a Surveyors’ Heritage Trail in the Bathurst CBD, including a published brochure.
Mr Southorn’s report also stated that development application fees continue to be waived for the repainting of buildings, reinstatement of verandas and appropriate signage in the Bathurst CBD.
