THIS week we welcome back returning 2MCE presenters and resume regular programming after the Christmas and new year period.
Many presenters travelled to visit family during this period or entertained visitors at home or just took a well-earned break.
Thank you to the presenters who filled shifts for colleagues and welcome back all presenters.
He’s big on Bing
GRAHAM Pascoe came to Bathurst from Melbourne with his wife, Helen, and their two children in 1972 to teach at what was then the Mitchell College of Advanced Education.
His field was marketing, in which he had worked with Shell Oil and ACI.
In 1978, he and another lecturer, Roger Ward, went to the 2MCE studio and recorded a series of programs produced by Rob Connor on the life and career of Bing Crosby.
He presented occasional programs during the next couple of decades, again featuring recordings by Crosby.
He’s been interested in Crosby for over 60 years.
After he retired from Charles Sturt University, he began to broadcast more regularly, but not only recordings by “the old groaner”. He also commenced a research project on Bing which led him to make a presentation at a Crosby conference in New York in 2002.
He then continued his research and wrote a book on Bing Crosby’s impact on Australian entertainment.
Each Monday from 9am, Graham presents Morning Music on 2MCE. It’s an easy listening music program featuring mostly recordings of popular music from the 1930s to the 1950s.
Needless to say, he always includes one or two songs by Bing and he still thinks he can sing like Bing in the shower.
Graham also reads The Talking Newspaper session from noon every Friday.
A little different
IF you like to listen out for something different, then 2MCE might be for you.
We offer a wide choice of music programs, including folk, country, rock, classical, jazz and world music.
Come All Ye with Bruce Cameron on Sundays from noon and One of The Folk from noon on Saturdays cover the folk music genre.
Chris Tobin presents the very popular Country Music Club on Sundays from 2pm and Wayne Hockings alternates with Phil Ross for Cowboys and Outlaws, covering the country music field.
You can also hear interviews about interesting topics relevant to our community with Susan and Monica on the Cool Climate Living program on Fridays at 11am and the new Community Matters program from 1pm on Fridays.
You’ll find something different to listen out for on 2MCE.
