THE cricket facilities at George Park are receiving a major upgrade during the 2017-18 season.
A spokesperson for Bathurst Regional Council said an experienced sports field contractor was engaged for “a full renovation treatment to one of the George Park wicket tables”.
The work commenced earlier this month to restore George Park 2, the lower of the two ovals, as part of an ongoing project to improve Bathurst’s cricket facilities.
“Council has a program in place to renovate all five turf cricket wickets throughout Bathurst over the next few years,” the spokesperson said.
“The renovation treatments will enable Council to continue to maintain its turf wickets at the quality level needed for ongoing use by all user groups.”
The George Park works will involve rebuilding of the wicket table and an increase of the wicket table area to cater for four wickets, as well as the installation of a new turf surface and drainage works.
It is expected the project will take four to six weeks to complete, weather depending.
“Although the oval will not be available for cricket use during the 2017-18 cricket season, it is envisaged that George Park 2 will still be available for use for AFL purposes at the commencement of the 2018 AFL season,” the spokesperson said.
