This will be the second year that Bathurst has participated in the day, which aims to encourage more people to visit museums in their area.
“Council is participating for a second time due the success of last year's event,” museums manager Janelle Middleton said.
“In 2017 over 1000 people took part to visit museums in Bathurst, which provided council's facilities with worldwide exposure.”
The facilities participating this year are the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, National Motor Racing Museum, Chifley Home, Bathurst Regional Art Gallery and the District Historical Society Museum.
As part of the day, visitors to these participating venues are encouraged to get creative and take their best selfie.
These photos can then be submitted to council for a chance to win a $100 Buy Local Gift Card.
The best entry from a primary school child will earn a merchandise pack.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to be creative and have a bit of fun at our museums,” Ms Middleton said.
To enter the competition, post a selfie with the hashtag #MuseumSelfieBathurst on the council's Facebook or Instagram pages.
