I came to Bathurst in 1974 and lived for a long time at the corner of Gilmour and Hereford streets (pre-Trinity Heights Shopping Centre), and subsequently in Peel.
You can imagine how many times I have driven up and down Hereford Street and thought how marvellous it would be if the area passed through, which has been underwater from time to time, could become a beautiful permanent lagoon associated with all the advantages mentioned in Stuart Pearson’s article.
Maybe we could even have a Bathurst Rowing Club or even a dragon boat team.
It seems to me it would be reasonably easy from an engineering point of view to create this wonderful feature.
Anything excavated could be dispersed around the banks and in the creation of the island mentioned in Stuart Pearson’s article.
I cannot count the number of times I have been on the brink of writing virtually the same article as has been submitted by Stuart.
Bravo Stuart.
