During the next two weeks, works will focus on the installation of the gabion walls adjacent to the wingwalls on the eastern side of Queen Charlottes Vale Creek.

Following that, crews will then continue work on the western side of the bridge.

Construction of the footbridge is expected to be completed during the next fortnight.

Stage one of the $4 million mitigation works is due to be completed by the end of January.

BATHURST Regional Council’s website states the “works aim to lessen the impact of potential flooding in Perthville village and will be undertaken in two phases, with a total project cost of approximately $4 million”.

“Stage 1 is currently underway and involves the deepening and widening of Queen Charlottes Vale Creek for approximately 1.5 kilometres and the installation of the box culverts to the east of Bridge Street,” council’s alert states.

“Stage 2 will see more than one kilometre of levee constructed to protect properties on the eastern side of Queen Charlotte’s Vale Creek. The upgrades add to the network of more than 10 kilometres that has been constructed in recent years.”
