The NSW Government initiative to reduce waste offers people a 10 cent refund for each approved item they return.
The RVMs are located at the Bathurst Community Op Shop in Kelso, Service NSW and Bathurst Recycling in Upfold Street, Gormans Hill.
Bathurst MP Paul Toole has long supported the initiative and helped to secure three RVMs for the city.
“There are not many cities to have three machines,” he said.
“If people don't want to claim their money, they can donate to a charity, which the op shop and Bobby [Bourke] have chosen to be Daffodil Cottage.”
Residents said first site was not suitable
IT was reported last week that Bathurst’s first Return and Earn reverse vending machine (RVM) was set to be relocated within the week, following a string of complaints from nearby residents and the community.
The RVM was installed at Metro Petroleum in South Bathurst on December 22, and it immediately attracted complaints that it created shocking noise pollution and resulted in the community dumping rubbish at the site.
Bathurst Regional councillor Alex Christian joined the residents’ calls for the RVM to be relocated.
“If the State Government has any consideration for residents, it needs to be moved,” he said.
