A range of events were held across the city to mark the occasion, including a barbecue breakfast at Eglinton, a citizenship ceremony, an award ceremony and Australia Day by the Pool.
The day promoted inclusiveness, celebrating what it means to be an Australian and a Bathurstian.
A number of Bathurst residents received significant honours on the day.
On a national level, retired music teacher and lecturer Roland Auguszczak was the recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia.
Vicki Wilson was celebrated as Bathurst’s 2018 Citizen of the Year, while 18-year-old Caroline Harvey was the Young Citizen of the Year.
Eight residents also officially became Australian citizens on the day and were cheered on by the crowd.
