Continuing the gallery’s focus on presenting works by the region’s most significant artists, BRAG is thrilled to present an exhibition by artist David Serisier, one of Australia’s finest minimal colour-field painters.
White Dogs, Hoarfrost, Silver + Gold is an exhibition of new works created at the artist’s studio in Spring Hill on the outskirts of Orange that respond to the seasons, colours and landscape of the region.
Stephen Little’s exhibition Red Planet responds to a very different type of environment - the surface and terrain of Mars.
Little’s video installation depicts recorded footage from the mission of Opportunity, a NASA Mars Exploration Rover (MER) which landed on Mars in 2004.
We travel from Mars to Hill End with a trio of exhibitions from the Hill End Artists in Residence Program.
Sculptor Cathe Stack, who undertook a residency in 2015, has created delicate assemblages of timber and clay that investigate the changing rhythm, scale and texture of the Hill End landscape for her exhibition Nature as the Shaping Force.
Artist couple Mark Dober and Elizabeth Nelson participated in the Hill End AIR program in 2017.
The resulting work body of work, Edge of the Studio, documents their experience of Hill End; from the intimate interiors and tangled gardens of Haefligers Cottage, to the open and expansive landscape that surrounds it.
Video artist Noelene Lucas returned to Hill End in 2017 to create a multi video piece as part of her ongoing exploration of avian life in the light of climate change and habitat loss.
Gracious Adaptation documents the adjustments Australian native birds have made in order to survive in the altered, post-industrial landscape of Hill End.
Happy returns
APRIL also sees the return of Martin Shaw’s Three Well Known Australians to the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery.
This artwork has been touring the country non-stop since its creation in 1982, and was last seen in Bathurst in 2008.
Who are the figures in the painting? Add your thoughts to Shaw’s incredible archive.
