The round brought a strong contingent of riders from across the state to Bathurst, with four grades of cycling allowing cyclists of all abilities to enjoy the action.
Bathurst’s Kirsten Howard (A grade road race), Kalinda Robinson (B grade Kermese) and Toireasa Gallagher (C grade time trial) all picked up victories.
Jill Harris (B grade time trial and road race), Robinson (road race), Gallagher (C grade road race and Kermese) and Rosemary Hastings (D grade road race) also found podiums for the home club during an exciting weekend of racing.
“There was really positive racing all weekend and with four grades it meant everyone had a chance,” Gallagher said.
“We had a large of abilities riding here. We had some of NSW’s elites racing through to those who are new to riding.
“A lot of credit goes to Marian Renshaw for organising a great event.”
Gallagher said the Bathurst Cycling Club was represented well over the three events.
“Jill Harris in B grade road really well. Kalinda Robinson won the B grade Kermese and was the Queen of the Mountain in the road race. Rosemary Hastings was consistent throughout the weekend as well.”
One of the standout performances of the weekend came from Dubbo Cycling Club’s Simone Grounds.
Grounds won the A grade time trial in a red hot time of 22 minutes and 19 seconds – believed to be the fastest time a female rider has completed the course.
The winning time over the 15.2km course averages out at 40.9km/h.
Emily Hanekroot (Sutherland Shire CC, 23:46) was second while Lisa Antill (Sydney Uni Velo Club) and Geraldine Blomfield-Brown (Waratah Masters CC) both finished the course in 24:18 to share the A grade third place.
Orange’s Christine Wolfson won the B grade ITT title with a time of 23:36, which would have been strong enough for second in A grade.
Tanya Gerold (Manly Warringah CC) was the D grade winner.
In the road race Howard (1:59:26) beat home Grounds (2:03:06) who won the runner-up prize by a matter of inches over Antill.
In the other grades Katherine Skinner (Sydney Uni Velo Club, B grade), Emily May (Sutherland Shire CC, C grade) and Gerold (D grade) were the winners.
The hotly contested A grade Kermese crown was won by Jennifer Darmony (Sydney Uni Velo Club) ahead of Hanekroot and Grounds.
