On Saturday, April 14 at 8.10pm in a nail biting, edge-of-your-seat spectacle, Powers will be suspended 50 metres in the air, wrapped in a straight jacket underneath a flaming set of steel jaws.
Only a thin rope will be holding the jaws open, and once it is set alight Powers will only have a short time to escape or be crushed.
Direct from his sell out world tour of “The Illusionists”, he will be attempting the death defying escape that would make Houdini himself turn in his grave.
For Powers, the danger is exciting but also very real. “It’s history making for the escape to be presented like this. Once I escape, I must jump from a 50 metre height to avoid being crushed inside the human bear trap when it slams shut after the rope burns through. I don’t want to end up as a human shish-kebab,” he said.
Described by critics as a dare devil performer, Powers has left celebrities including Jamie Foxx and Geri Haliwell gasping in amazement.
He is a new breed of escape artist with smouldering stage presence, charisma and the looks to go with it, with Powers being described as more Hollywood than Vegas.
After completing a record breaking 2000 shows at the Reef Hotel Casino, he shot to fame reaching the grand final of the hit television show 'Australia’s Got Talent', seen by millions around the world.
Powers fell in love with magic at age three after witnessing a magic show at his kindergarten’s Christmas party. By the age of five he was amazing his own school teachers, at fifteen he made his first appearance on national television and at eighteen earned the coveted title of Australian 'Magician of the Year'.
It’s history making for the escape to be presented like this.
- Sam Powers
He has appeared before 20 million Australian viewers on television programs including The Today Show, Sunrise, Mornings, The Footy Show, The Morning Show, A Current Affair, Nine News, Ten News and Seven News and Australia’s Got Talent.
He now stars alongside six of the industry's greatest illusionists onstage in the biggest magic show on the planet, 'The Illusionists' world tour.
Powers said the deadly nature of his stunt work means razor sharp focus and peak physical condition is critical at all times, a state he says he acheives with ketosis.
Sam Powers’ “Jaws of Death” show coupled with the stunning fireworks display, music, rides and more, means Saturday at the Royal Bathurst Show promises to be a night not to be missed.
