BATHURST Young Mob, has been gifted a learner driver car, to help young Aboriginal teenagers obtain their licence.

Young Mob, who in partnership with students at Kelso High School had planned to fund raise to buy a car for the students to learn to drive in was given the car, which has dual controls, by Birrang Enterprises in Orange.

Birrang and Young Mob joined forces last year to assist the students getting their learners permit, and the donation of the car will ultimately enable them to continue on and get their licence.
Shona Kennedy, from Bathurst Young Mob said she felt blessed to have such an amazing partnership with Birrang.
Darren Smith from Birrang said the enterprise was delighted to able able to support positive outcomes for youth in Bathurst.
He said having a licence was key to being able to access education, employment and economic independence.
“It’s a pleasure and a privilege to support Bathurst Young Mob and the students,” he said.
Students who have undertaken the learn to drive program through Kelso High, Young Mob and Birrang said it had been amazing.
Dominic Makhoul said it made him a much better driver.
“I feel more confident on the road.”
Messina Mackay got her driver’s licence through the program in July last year.
She is now able to get to work, and help her mum, who doesn’t have a licence.
