Coles will compete in the second International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup event of the year in Changwon.
He will shoot on a range he has never seen before against the world’s best, many of whom have more experience that the 27-year-old.
But Coles feels he is in the sort of form to make his presence felt.
“I’ve had a good start to the year, probably the best start I’ve had to any year, so hopefully I can keep it going and perform well,” he said.
“I performed pretty well in the World Cup in Mexico last year, I came 14th, so hopefully I can take the next step.
“It’s hard to say how I’ll go, but I’m confident I can shoot the scores I have here in Australia and if I can do that, top 10 would be more than realistic.”
Coles, who has previously represented Australia in Munich and Lonato as well as at last year’s World Cup event in Acapulco, earned his latest national selection on the back of three good results.
At the Australian titles in January he made the final in both the Commonwealth and National competitions, before going on to impress with a second placing at a selection event at Cecil Park in mid-February.
Coles will fly out for South Korea next Wednesday and is looking forward to competing at a different venue.
“I haven’t shot in any of the Asian countries before, so that will be nice. Apparently the range is all very new, so it should be a good experience,” he said.
“Once you get used to it, not having shot there really doesn’t make a large difference, you have three and four days practice before the actual competition starts, so that’s more than enough time to adapt to any small differences the range might have to anywhere else.
“It will be exciting, it’s a shot at getting in another World Cup team as well and that’s always the goal, to be in the Australian side. This can be a step towards making a few more consistently.
“You get more comfortable each time.”
