Norwood Park general manager Stephen Beer said a new section is being created a Bathurst Cemetery, where people can now purchase plots with prominent headstones. 

These differ from the newer graves, which are simply plaques in the lawn.

“We have done much more development there. People can now buy a grave site on the new side of the cemetery,” Mr Beer said.

“They’re basically a much nicer burial site with covers on them.”

The new graves can be customised to suit the wishes of families.

Mr Beer said people can ask for particular colours and designs for the graves. 

It takes around six weeks to build them.

The cemetery will always aim to have ready-made graves in the new section that people can purchase, either ahead of time or following their death, for their loved ones to be buried in. 

Mr Beer said the decision was made to start offering this service in response to requests from families. 

“It is a particular situation where some families have asked for it and we are trying to meet that request,” he said. 

Ash walls have also been constructed in the new memorial garden, located between the crematorium and the reflective pond, for people who choose to cremate their loved ones. 

“What I try to do is always give people an option so they can have a cheaper option or a more expensive option if they want,” Mr Beer said of the new services.
