Born and raised in Carcoar, Mr Fearnley has beat all the odds to become one of Australia’s finest athletes and biggest inspirations.
Over the course of the Games on the Gold Coast, he raced hard to the end to earn himself a silver medal in the men’s T54 1,500 metres final, before going one better to claim the gold in the marathon on Sunday.
Mr Fearnley, who made no secret that this would be his last Games, capped off his career in the green and gold by being Australia’s flag bearer at the closing ceremony, the first Para athlete to do so.
Through it all he has had the support of his wife Sheridan, originally from Bathurst, and their two children, Harry and Emilia.
No matter how proud all of Australia is, no one could be more proud of his achievements than his wife.
“I'm so proud of him, I'm proud of everything he's done, everything he's achieved,” she said.
“My favourite, favourite race, I've got two.
“The Beijing Marathon when he came into the stadium and there were three guys racing.
“[And] When he won New York and Harry and I were there, it was so special to share that with our child.”
