Hundreds if not thousands of people will flock to the CBD across Saturday to witness the criterium racing, so you’ll have to be mindful of a few road closures.
And while the roads may be blocked, shops, cafes, restaurants will all be open providing a perfect opportunity for local businesses to grab an economic boost.
The Knickerbocker Hotel will be located right in front of the cycling action, across Kings Parade on William Street, and owner Scott Macalister said the event is something he’s keen to embrace.
“Our accommodation has been booked out Thursday, Friday and Saturday night,” he said.
“We normally get a few fit frames at the pub for this, which is a bit different.
“It’s a really great event to have right here in the CBD.
“Make sure you come into the Knickerbocker and have a look from the window.”
The Royal Society Cafe, located on William Street across from the Kings Parade, will have extended hours especially for the event.
A spokeswomen from the cafe is expecting the day to provide a significant boost to business.
She also agreed that the cycling event is a great thing to have in town, to provide a boost to local businesses.
The classic’s feature event is the Blayney to Bathurst race on Sunday, with a record 2400 cyclists expected.
The following road closures will take place between 5am to 9pm:
- Russell Street temporary closure between George and William Street
- William Street temporary closure between Keppel and Church Street
- Church Street temporary closure between William and George Street
- George Street temporary closure between Keppel and Howick Street
- Taxi zone on Russell Street to be moved to Keppel Street
- Disabled parking installed on Keppel Street
- Bus zone installed on Keppel Street
