Family Drug Support (FDS), which has been providing specialised support services for family members coping with alcohol and drug dependents for more than 17 years, will offer the Stepping Forwards drug and alcohol course.
“I have seen the enormous difference this course makes to people’s lives,” program manager and course leader Julie Clark said.
“They are stronger, better supported and have taken on skills to better manage their relationship with the user. This will in turn help the user towards better outcomes.”
Past Stepping Forwards participant Janet (not her real name) said the course helped her accept that staying connected with her drug dependent son did “not mean I have to remain helpless and lose myself”.
The course will run from 9.30am-4.30pm this Saturday, April 28 in the Bathurst RSL Courtyard Room. To book, contact Ms Clark on 0400 113 422.
Family Drug Support will also offer free monthly meetings at Bathurst Base Hospital starting from next month for family members of those with a drug or alcohol addiction.
The monthly meetings will teach coping skills, explain more about drug and alcohol dependence and show how best to support someone with an addiction.
The meetings will be held at the Bathurst Base Hospital Education Centre on the first Thursday of each month from 6pm-8pm starting on Thursday, May 3.
To find the Education Centre, go through the main entrance double doors, turn left and it’s the first room on the left.
For more information, contact Ms Clark, 0400 113 422.
