The city always tries to offer children a varied range of activities that can appeal to all different interests and these school holidays are no different.
Last week, Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) held a polystyrene printing workshop, using the material and other recycled objects to create interesting pictures.
The pictures were all different, but some of the creations depicted cars, cats and hearts.
BRAG has used a few of its workshops to support the Waste 2 Art competition, which encourages people to use recycled materials and turn them into works of art.
Children participating in the polystyrene workshop were given entry forms at the end of the session so they could submit their pieces for Waste 2 Art.
“Some of these are really worth entering because there are some great works that have been made,” the instructor said.
BRAG will hold four more workshops during the second week of the school holidays, one supporting Waste 2 Art and the remaining three taking inspiration from current exhibitions.
On Tuesday morning, those 15 years of age and older are invited to come along to turn packaging into art.
Later that afternoon, children aged eight to 17 years can use David Serisier’s metallic paintings as inspiration when they make a treasured keepsake or gift box.
Thursday’s workshop will make art from clay and wood, while Friday’s workshop will use textiles to interpret Hill End artist Mark Dober’s painting of Haefligers Cottage.
To find out times and prices for these workshops or to book, call BRAG on 6333 6555.
Instead of the traditional workshop on Tuesday, Bathurst Library will host an all-ages puppet show from 10.30am.
Entry is $5 per child and children must be accompanied by a parent.
The library’s last holiday activity will be on Thursday and gives the chance to make fairy-tale playdough.
Bookings are essential. Call the library on 6333 6281.
Bathurst PCYC has a more active holiday program, with activities on all day long.
Parents can book their children in for a whole day, or for a morning or afternoon session if they would prefer.
As the programs are always so popular, it is essential bookings are made early.
Activities on offer for the last week include laser tag, obstacle courses, gymnastics, circus skills and ball games.
Call the PCYC on 6331 2191 for more information or to book.
