Each year on Anzac Day, thousands flock to Tyers Park for the event, which is just as much about the social highlights as it is the horse racing.
Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing manager Michelle Tarpenning expects there will be a strong crowd there to enjoy the day.
“We’re completely sold out in our VIP area, our track-side marquee and in the grandstand,” she said.
A fun and favoured event within the Soldier’s Saddle race meeting is the Fashions on the Field competition for both men and women.
The categories include Most Elegant Classic Lady, Best Classic Dressed Man, Most Contemporary Lady and Contemporary Best Man, along with Autumn Wear.
There is a $500 cash prize for winners in each category, and $250 for the runners up. Prizes will also be provided by local businesses.
“I encourage everyone to frock up for that,” Ms Tarpenning said of the competition.
A new addition to the event, which may help with Fashions on the Field, is the Beauty Bar hosted by Brow Renovation.
The bar will help ladies look their best all day long.
“I’m always looking for new initiatives to make the day better and this is something they do at other places, like Randwick,” Ms Tarpenning said.
“[The ladies] go to so much trouble to dress up and deserve to be pampered halfway through the day.”
Also new this year is the Prosecco bar, offering glasses of chilled wine for $7.
As this is Anzac Day, the club will commemorate the sacrifice of servicemen and women at the beginning of the day.
“We will have a ceremony at the start of the day from the RSL with a minute silence and the Last Post,” Ms Tarpenning said.
“The RSL is our major sponsor and we put this on in conjunction with them.”
Gates open for the event at 11am, with the first race at 12.56pm.
The Solider’s Saddle race itself will be held at 3.56pm.
Tickets cost $20 for adults, while children under 16 can enter for free.
Courtesy buses will run throughout the day from Bathurst RSL to Tyers Park from 12pm.
