Mel Johnson – the events namesake – has lived with brain cancer since 2000 and her tumour is currently in a stabilised condition which she said is a “blessing”.
However, it has changed her life dramatically and its something she has now learnt to live with.
Money raised on the fundraiser night, held at Bathurst RSL, will not only go to finding a cure for brain cancer but giving cancer sufferers a better quality of life.
“This dinner is huge and people who come along are showing their support for brain cancer,” he said.
“There’s more brain cancer patients in Bathurst than just me and it needs to be promoted.
“People need to know that brain cancer also strikers young people as well.
“You can get hit whenever and it can go undiagnosed.”
Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Bathurst RSL reception, costing $90 which includes a three course meal.
There will be a silent auction, raffle, lucky door prizes and the fundraising highlight is a lab coat that has been signed by multiple Bathurst 12 Hour drivers.
Attendees are to arrive at 6pm for a 6.30pm start.
