The winning ticket was bought from Newspower in the Orana Mall for the $20 million Lotto draw on Saturday night.
Newsagency owner Greg Stevenson said he had been informed the store had sold a winning ticket but the unsuspecting woman didn’t know her luck was about to change when she came in to check her numbers on Sunday.
“Lo and behold the lady came in later in the morning like normal, not knowing we’d had a winner,” he said.
The ticket was scanned and the staff broke the happy news to the customer, a Dubbo local and regular player.
She had won the $1,428,571.43 division one prize.
“She was in shock and speechless,” Mr Stevenson said.
The local win provided a buzz among staff and customers, even after the lucky ticket holder had been found.
“Everyone was so happy for her, especially being Mother’s Day,” Mr Stevenson said.
The customer was one of 14 division one winners on Saturday, three of which were in NSW/ACT, according to the Lott website.
The Lotto player regularly buys tickets, and continued her approach, the newsagent reported.
“Because she was feeling lucky, she bought a couple more tickets in the next big draw,” Mr Stevenson said.
