Blue Blizzard ($8.80) was blocked for a run on several occasions during Monday’s Ladbrokes Cash In Maiden (450 metres) at Kennerson Park but still found a way to get the win.
A stellar back half saw Blue Blizzard catch up to leader Reign It In ($2.50) with just a handful of metres remaining.
Reign it in finished a length away while Bogan City Gal ($15.70) held on for third.
“He’s been improving. He’s generally slow early in his races and runs home well. When he got close to them today I thought he was a big chance,” winning owner David Worthy, of Kings Plains, said.
“Last week through the back he was running last and came third. This time he was third going through there and he had them in his sights early.
“We’ve had a lot of problems with him. He’s a three-year-old dog who’s only just started racing. He’s only had the nine starts.
“The wife [Lisa Worthy, trainer] will be very happy.”
Inside starter Reign It In flew out of the boxes to take the lead on the first turn.
Bogan City Gal and Blue Blizzard – from boxes three and four respectively – avoided a messy start between the outside runners to give chase to the leader.
Blue Blizzard had a head full of steam but was checked twice by Bogan City Gal through the run.
When a gap opened up on the final turn, and Reign It In drifted wide, an opportunity presented itself.
Blue Blizzard saved ground along the rail and that proved the difference, winning in a time of 26.43 seconds.
