I READ with interest that the subject of roundabouts has been raised yet again.

This time, it’s the top roundabout on Stewart Street, being the intersection of three major highways.
As a daily user of this roundabout, the biggest issue is not the heavy vehicles and it’s not the 30 minutes of peak hour traffic at between 8.30am and 9am - it's the severe lack of sight distance caused by the unnecessary high plantings in the centre of the roundabout.
With the roundabout located on a small crest, it is impossible to see through the intersection, particularly when entering from the Blayney Road or Brilliant Street.
On this issue alone, I agree with Councillor Warren Aubin. However, to suggest that traffic lights are warranted, is perhaps a step to far at this stage. Let’s get some much needed maintenance done on the plantings, maybe even remove them altogether, and improve the sight distance immediately.
Whilst Cr Aubin and the local traffic committee ponder this, perhaps they can also look at the much publicised issue of traffic hold-ups in George Street between Durham, Howick and Russell streets.
Is it time to visit the notion of nose-in parking in Bathurst? It works perfectly well in major towns in southern NSW and Victoria, and certainly speeds up traffic flows in their major streets.
I’m not sure if the traffic committee could handle this one, but I’m putting it out there.
