The event is held annually and sees libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country read the same book at the same time.
On Wednesday, mayor Graeme Hanger will have the honour of reading Hickory Dickory Dash at the library for young children.
Australian author and broadcaster Tony Wilson wrote the children’s book. He is also the author of other popular titles, including The Cow Tripped Over the Moon and The Princess and the Packet of Frozen Peas.
Cr Hanger said National Simultaneous Storytime is a great opportunity for the community to come together and share in a love of books and reading.
“National Simultaneous Storytime aims to promote the value of reading and literacy. Australian writers, illustrators, publishers and public libraries in the community are a vital facet of our daily lives,” he said.
In addition to enjoying the story, Bathurst Library staff will present other stories and rhymes to the children.
There will also be a colouring competition, with prizes donated by Books Plus.
National Simultaneous Storytime will start at 11am sharp, however the library will have other free events from 10am.
