Larry Wiles, 61, was riding a pushbike on the Sofala Road at Wattle Flat which collided with a Nissan X-Trail driven by a 40-year-old Metford man last November.
Despite the best efforts of the driver who rendered first aid, Mr Wiles died at the scene.
Kelly Fitzgerald, Mr Wiles’ former partner, said police called her last week to say the driver involved in the collision would not be charged.
Fighting back tears, she said she was grateful to police for their investigation.
And while she didn’t know the driver involved in the collision, she wanted him to know no-one blamed him for the crash.
“I just wanted to let him know there are no hard feelings. I don’t know what to say other then I hope he finds peace,” she said.
Ms Fitzgerald said she had found comfort in the fact that Mr Wiles didn’t die alone, that the driver was there with him and did everything he could to try and save him.
“We were told we’re not allowed to know who he was, so we have no way of getting in touch with him,” she said.
“I just wanted him to know we are thankful for helping (as Mr Wiles was dying).”
While separated from Mr Wiles, Ms Fitzgerald said the pair remained very friendly and stayed in touch.
She said Mr Wiles shared his time between Wollongong and Wattle Flat, where he had a property.
Ms Fitzgerald said she knew Mr Wiles was tinkering with a pushbike at the property and he must have been taken it for a ride on the road when the collision occurred.
She said she knows how hard it’s been for her family in losing Mr Wiles and said she can’t imagine how hard it must have been for the driver, not only to have been in a collision but to be with someone as they died.
“We just want him to know no-one blames him.”
