I’VE said it before, Bathurst Regional Council is not too savvy when it comes to the politics of an issue.

Just like the branding debate where council got it forever wrong over suggesting “Forever Young” as the digital brand, so too have they unnecessarily dragged out the Mitre Street roundabout issue.
Surely after four separate reports a decision could have been made.
However, I understand mayor Graeme Hanger (who, to be fair, has always been against the proposal) attempted to obtain a fifth report. Thankfully, the director of engineering rejected this further dithering.
May I suggest that the mayor shows some leadership in getting on with the job.
Circuit designers throw away the handbook
TENDERS closed last week for the proposed second circuit on Mount Panorama.
All we know so far is that all three tenderers had originally submitted “unique and creative” designs. Interestingly, though, it appears none of the tenderers based their design on the example given in the Expression of Interest documents.
This was despite the EoI stating: “The consultant will base the design of the second circuit on the preliminary layout as provided at Appendix B. However, the design, where appropriate will be able to be modified to suit site requirements, cost consideration, spectator access and required approvals.”
But ignoring the preliminary layout should be seen as a positive as feedback on that design – particularly from motorcycling interests – was not very complimentary.
So here’s hoping that the final submissions are indeed “unique and creative” as the motorsport world’s eye are on Bathurst Regional Council to get it right.
One thing that is certain, the second circuit will future-proof motorsport within the Bathurst region as an economic driver for decades to come.
It will also be Bathurst Regional Council’s largest infrastructure project so there is a lot riding on the plan, the construction and its future management.
Aqua park to be a welcome boost for the dam precinct
I THINK it is great news that an aquatic park will be set up at Ben Chifley Dam over the warmer months.
I’m not sure why but the dam precinct is devoid of inspiration.
The campgrounds would be the worst around the Central West so maybe it’s time to revisit the whole master plan to make it more attractive for visitors.
Councillors take a chill pill after fiery meeting
WELL, it appears the combatants within the council chamber have taken a “chill pill” after reports of a very fiery working party meeting a few weeks ago.
One councillor even considered filing a a Code of Conduct complaint against a colleague following the meeting.
Thumbs up

Thumbs down
MAYOR Graeme Hanger attempting to dither even more, requesting a fifth report on the proposed Mitre Street roundabout. Surely enough is enough.
