Two of the dojo’s leading juniors, Keelan Ruston-Walkom and Jaiden Gunning, both found themselves in the medals during the AKF NSW Open Championships.
The competition was of a high standard, given it was compulsory for state team members, but Ruston-Walkom (1st under 9s point sparring, 3rd place under 9s kata) and Gunning (3rd place 12-13s point sparring) excelled.
Keelan Ruston-Walkom backed up on Sunday to finish first in kata at the ISKA Sydney City Open.
The tournament was an excellent one for the Bathurst competitors who achieved nine wins between them.
Tegan Gibbons (1st point sparring, 1st sword combat), Adan Coello (1st self defence), Jacob McGovern (1st place point sparring, 1st sword combat, 2nd kata, 3rd weapons kata), Kiara Blattman (1st place Self defence, 1st synchronised kata), Sarah Duffey (1st kata, 3rd sparring) and Jordan Hickey (1st point sparring, 2nd kata, 3rd weapons kata, 2nd synchronised kata) all achieved victories.
Beau Blattman (2nd self defence, 2nd kata), Hannah Gibbons (2nd sparring, 2nd kata), Reubin Delaney (2nd self defence, 2nd ju jitsu), Naz O’Connor (2nd point sparring, 3rd kata), Taylor Hickey (2nd synchronised kata) and Damien Blattman (3rd kata) all placed.
The dojo’s fundraiser for their US touring team takes place this Sunday from 10am, featuring games and activities and a BBQ lunch.
