The annual event sees different venues all across Australia, and some in New Zealand, read the same book at the same time.
Bathurst Library manager Patou Clerc said the choice of book this year was the fun title, Hickory Dickory Dash.
“We are looking behind the scenes of why the mouse ran up the clock,” she said.
Mayor Graeme Hanger had the honour of reading this year and did a great job of involving the children in the story, by having them call out the sounds.
“Graeme is just fabulous with his storytelling,” Ms Clerc said.

More than one million children across two nations joined in Wednesday’s event.
Prior to the story at 11am, Bathurst Library held free activities as part of New Kids on the Book, a program aimed at babies and toddlers.
“It is proven that reading to small children will help them in their education,” Ms Clerc said.
She also praised the library’s children’s team, for the work its members do creating programs for young members of the community.
