BELLA Ball Terror was far too classy for the rest of his field in the opening event of Wednesday night’s meeting at Bathurst Paceway.

Trained and driven by Dennis Picker, Bella Ball Terror ($1.30) worked wide on the turn for home in the Knickerbocker Hotel Three Year Old Pace (1,730 metres) and chased down Im Ok ($33.60, Bernie Hewitt) for victory.
Bernie Hewitt’s Im Ok was eyeing off a big upset when he got almost seven metres clear at the top of the straight but Picker and his Western Terror gelding weren’t having any of that.
Bella Ball Terror won in a mile rate of 1:57.2 to break a four-race run of minor placings.
“He wore them down at the end there. He only raced on Sunday this bloke and he probably took a while to wind them in – he might have been a bit flat – but he got the job done,” Picker said.
“The other two favourites [Goliath Stride and Our Chateau Lafite] probably did a bit early so we had to sit back and then come at them with our own run. He got the job done.”
Im Ok was hardly challenged for the lead when the mobile sped away.
There was plenty of action happening on his outside. Our Chateau Lafite worked three wide to the front of the outside line before Goliath Stride took control of the death seat.
Into the last lap Im Ok and Goliath Stride gained a small break on the field.
On the final turn Im Ok continued to motor ahead while, surprisingly, Goliath Stride couldn’t match the outsider’s pace.
Bella Ball Terror began his move around the outside of the field at that time, and despite the longer trip he was full of running when coming up to challenge the leader.
Picker’s gelding got by with 100m left to run and claimed his fifth career win.
In other racing action during the meeting all the attention went towards the Breeders Challenge Two-year-old Colts and Geldings heats.
It wasn’t surprising for anyone to see Gold Crown winner College Chapel and placegetter Animal filling out the top two positions in their heat – but their finishing order was certainly a shock.
Animal shot clear over the final 100m to win in a mile rate of 1:56.2.
Amanda Turnbull brought Animal ($4.20) to the front of the pack at the start of the heat.
Bernie Hewitt took little time to get College Chapel ($1.30 favourite) across to the death seat, and punters were already gearing up for an exciting finish.
When Turnbull asked her colt to go everyone expected College Chapel to offer a challenge, but it never came.
It was a memorable night for Turnbull who claimed a big victory in the other colts and geldings heat with Shoobee Doo.
Shoobee Doo blitzed his field by 13.6 metres.
