A COUPLE of weeks ago long-time presenters Geoff and Henry presented their final Jazznotes program on 2MCE in order to take a break and focus on other projects and interests.
Now we farewell another long-time presenter Keith Manning, who is moving to the Central Coast to continue his semi-retirement.
Keith started his Out of India program on 2MCE in 2008 shortly after moving from Sydney to Bathurst with his family.
Keith is an accomplished musician who trained under a tabla guru in India for 16 years from 1975 to 1991.
He has spent the past 30 years performing Indian and fusion music in Australia.
Keith was involved with the Indian musical society called Sangeet in Sydney during the 1970s and 1980s and a member of the band Kanguru during the late 1970s playing east/west fusion music.
During his time in Bathurst, Keith has become heavily immersed in the local music scene. He played frequently with Matt Williamson, he performed at Cabaret Kite, the End Festival and Inland Sea of Sound Festival.
He performed at 2MCE’s Sounds Live festival in 2009 and 2010 and was an invaluable member of the sound recording team for our live-to-air recordings.
Keith bought his knowledge and expertise of Indian music to every episode of his Out of India program, sharing diverse styles of Indian and Indian inspired music for the audience.
It has been my pleasure to meet Keith at 2MCE and hear his program over the years.
All of us at 2MCE wish Keith all the best for his future on the Central Coast where he hopes to reconnect with musician friends and continue performing
Keith’s final Out of India program is Thursday, May 31 at 8.30pm on 92.3 Bathurst and 94.7 Orange.
Approval given for new courses
TWO new courses were recently approved for the School of Communication and Creative Industries (SCCI) at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst.
Following a comprehensive course review, revisions for the Bachelor of Communication were approved, as was the introduction of the new Bachelor of Theatre Media to be offered for the first time in 2019.
Congratulations to course director Travis Holland and the team of academics who worked on the course review to design these two contemporary courses.
2MCE works closely with the SCCI to enable student learning opportunities in the radio station.
I was able to hear progress of the course review along the way over the past 18 months and look forward to exciting opportunities for students at 2MCE in the coming years.
