Bathurst Bird Club president Tim Pickstone said there were 490 birds entered in the show for judging and around 120 available for sale, with various varieties accounted for.
“There’s a large selection of zebra finches, foreign finches, Australian finches, a large selection of canaries, budgerigars and exotic and Australian parrots,” Mr Pickstone said.
Judging of the birds was undertaken on Sunday morning.
One of the judges, Bruce Hockley, has bred birds for 60 years and judged them for 45 years.
On Sunday, he was looking for the birds with the best overall colouring, body size and markings among the different varieties.
He was quite happy with the birds that had been entered for judging.
“[There are] a couple of very nice birds here today, some very good quality stuff,” Mr Hockley said. “It is quite a good show actually.”
Those who visited the show were able to take home a new pet, as well as spend time looking at a wide range of birds and speak to the experts and breeders.
The bird show has been held around this time of year for more than a decade.
