That stunning start for the Bathurst Bushrangers Rebels led them to a 25-13-163 to 8-13-61 win over the visiting Parkes Panthers at George Park 2 on Saturday.
Rebels smoked the Panthers over the opening term to rocket out to a 41-point lead at quarter time.
Bushrangers had a field day in front of goal.
Eleven home players kicked a goal. Five of them had at least three majors to their name.
“We spoke about the importance of getting off to a strong start and the boys just blew them away,” Rebels co-coach Steve Grundy said.
“It was a phenomenal start and we didn’t let the pressure up all day.”
With the Rebels carrying a 14 goals to three advantage at the main break they were able to start rotating their bench around.
Even with plenty of combination changes the Rebels comfortably won the third quarter and equalled the Panthers for the final term.
Grundy said an amazing team effort paved the way for the triple digit winning margin.
“I thought Kaleb Crowhurst was lethal up front. Probably around 13 of our goals came out of the midfield which really goes to show how much we dominated there,” he said.
“Connor Milliss rucked well all day and battled hard most of the match against a couple of tall players. Andy James and Troy Robinson were untouchable out of the midfield.
Rebels came up just short of kicking twice as many goals as behinds - a welcome change for the team after they were wasteful on several occasions against the Bathurst Giants last Saturday.
"We spoke about the importance of making our opportunities count this week. It's just the second time this year we've managed to score more goals than behinds," Grundy said.
James led the way with four goals. Robinson, Crowhurst, Matt Archer and Paul Long scored three goals each.
The result keeps Rebels in second on the ladder behind the Orange Tigers, who they are yet to play.
