Artstate will celebrate the best of regional arts and feature theatre, music, dance, film and visual arts. It will be a great opportunity for our local artists to showcase their work to our local community and visiting delegates.
At 2MCE we plan to bring you interviews with artists involved in Artstate in the lead up to the event in November.
Public art
BATHURST Regional Art Gallery recently hosted a series of consultation sessions about public art in Bathurst.
I was delighted to represent 2MCE at one session with representatives from Arts OutWest, the Bathurst Town Square committee, Mitchell Conservatorium and BRAG. We were introduced to some exceptional examples of public art in Australian cities and asked to think about what might be possible in Bathurst.
I’ve been reading a lot about radio art lately and the conversations at the gallery got me thinking about radio as a public sphere and the possibilities for radio to engage in public art.
There is a long tradition of art on the radio, dating back to the 1930s when radio was emerging in Europe and people started experimenting with audio. Early examples included city soundscapes where the microphone captured the sounds of the streets to be broadcast.
Even today there are artists who work in the field of radio and transmission art.
Community radio is the perfect platform to experiment with new radio forms. Our commitment to access, diversity and independence encourages innovative ideas about making radio.
If you’ve got a great idea for a different type of radio show, I’d love to hear from you.
Perhaps you’ve written a play that could be performed on the radio or you’re a poet who’d like to share your work on-air. Perhaps you’re a sound artist and would like to broadcast your art.

So long, farewell
THIS week is the final week of session for Charles Sturt University’s on-campus students so some of our 2MCE student presenters will be leaving Bathurst to visit family for a few weeks.
We wish them a safe, enjoyable break and look forward to their return in July.
Other student presenters will be finishing the on-campus component of their studies and heading off to internships and new jobs.
We wish those students all the best for their future careers and hope they enjoyed their time on 2MCE.
