Activities featuring a medieval theme will start at midday and continue until late.
Now in its fifth year, the festival has grown into a tradition that celebrates both the early nightfall of the shortest day of the year and the promised return of long sunny days.
Newbridge Progress representative Sally Angel said it would be a family-friendly event with something for everyone, including an English-style street market, Viking sword fight demonstrations as well as children’s sword fighting activities. There will be Morris Dancers in the streets and The Great Dane Magician.
A community bonfire kicks off from 5pm on the Gladstone Green at the Newbridge Hotel for the burning of the wicker man. It is a tradition to throw a small wicker man into the fire to cleanse the energy and start anew as the days lengthen towards spring.
Bands The Orient Royal Mail and The Bootleggers will provide entertainment throughout the festival.
Visitors are invited to come dressed in medieval costume with prizes on offer for the best adult and child costumes. Ample parking is available at the Newbridge Sportsground and there is a disabled drop off zone opposite the Olde Bridge Gallery
