The Bathurst Bulldogs Rugby Union and St Pat’s Rugby League clubs are both located off this busy street and throughout the week they attract hundreds of players and supporters of all ages.

The sealed road that joins the two clubs has a signposted speed limit of 20km/h. The road runs parallel to Hereford Street.

Cr Rudge said she often witnesses motorists travelling above the speed limit on the road and she holds fears for young children and pedestrians who are in the area for football.

She took her concerns to council’s recent policy committee meeting and called for investigations into introducing a speed reduction method to slow motorists down.

“I think we need to consider [installing] speed humps to slow traffic down between the two clubs,” she said.

Ms Rudge told the Western Advocate that she was very concerned about the high number of children in the area and the possibility of accidents due to motorists driving too fast.

“I think we need to slow the traffic down because there’s so many children around,” she said.

“There’s a signposted 20km/h speed limit, but people tend to speed along there.”

Cr Rudge also used council’s policy meeting to suggest that more lighting be installed in the car parks of both clubs.

“It gets very dark out there in the winter months and rugby is a winter sport,” she said.
