And, while it’s a secret that most people in the Central West don’t know about, it shouldn’t be. It’s something that should rightly make us very proud.

While the commercial stations in the region take their news bulletins from services emanating from either the Sydney-based Macquarie Radio Network (2GB) or their own networks (Triple M and Hit), 2MCE (92.3 in Bathurst and 94.7 in Orange) takes its news bulletins from National Radio News.

The service is based on the campus of Charles Sturt University in Bathurst and employs three full-time journalists and cadet journalists.

National Radio News broadcasts to every state and territory in Australia and has the largest national broadcast footprint of any news network, including the ABC.

The newsroom also gives journalism students at Charles Sturt University the opportunity to put together, produce and read 2MCE’s local news bulletins, which are broadcast separately from the national news.

Many journalism graduates have then gone on to utilise these skills while carving out successful careers in radio, television and newspapers.  

So, when you’re next listening to National Radio News on 2MCE, think that people right across Australia are listening simultaneously to the same bulletin on more than 90 radio stations.

And it’s all coming out of our national newsroom, based right here in Bathurst.
