The site, in Durham Street, was sold by Jay Cleary, from Bathurst Real Estate to a Sydney based development group.
Once earmarked as the site for a wellness centre featuring 11 GPs and 20 allied health professionals, the site has been vacant for years, and been sold twice by Mr Cleary.
Back in 2011, plans were drawn up for a new $7 million one-stop medical centre to be housed on the site, which planned to house general practitioners and allied health professionals as well as a pharmacy, pathology services, cafe and playground.
In addition to GP services, the centre was to offer physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic services, psychology, a dietitian, occupational therapy, podiatry and speech pathology as well as complementary services including massage, kinesiology, naturopathy and herbal medicine.
When the centre was announced in 2011, it was expected to be operational within 12 months, however, the development never evolved, and the property was sold as vacant land in July 2016, for $285,000.
It remained undeveloped for almost two years until being sold again on May 29, 2018, by Mr Cleary.
While the latest development has yet to go through council, Mr Cleary said it is earmarked for residential units, which he suspected would be in high demand on completion give the sites proximity to the central business district and other services.
He said at this stage the developer was looking at the construction of four units, thought that was subject to council approval. He said given the location of the block, and the difficulty of obtaining vacant land close to the city any units built on it would be snapped up.
“It’s so close to the CBD, everything is in walking distance,” he said.
And he said the block was quite large.
“It’s approximately 1208m2 and flat” he said.
Mr Cleary said he has dealt with the Sydney based developer who purchased the block on many occasions.
“He has done business in Bathurst before,” he said.
