They were accepted into the NSW Department of Education’s Festival of Instrumental Music, with students taking part in rehearsals and an evening performance at the iconic Sydney venue on Sunday.
Bathurst Public School teacher Julie George said the cohort of students included eight strings players and seven recorder players.
“It gives the children the opportunity to perform to a big audience and they get the opportunity to perform with hundreds of students,” she said.
“It’s just amazing being there. The kids love it.”
Two students – Bella Waldron and Oscar Simeonidis – also performed in the NSW Schools Recorder Consort on the same day which included 90 public school students from Years 5-12.

Another student, Jazmin Crook, was also accepted into the Consort however was unable to attend due to family commitments.
Ms George said the school had been involved in the Festival of Instrumental Music for a number of years and said it provided great encouragement for the music students.
“They’re very enthusiastic when they’ve been to this concert … it’s quite an eye-opener,” she said.
