Tuesday’s NSW Budget may not have directed much funding to the Bathurst electorate, but the NSW Treasury did pick the city as an example of how the proposed NSW Generations Fund will benefit local communities
The My Community Dividend (MCD) is part of the Fund and gives people in NSW the power to propose and vote on projects that strengthen and enhance their community.
An initial $27.5 million will be allocated for MCD projects in 2018-19 as part of the NSW Budget.
In an effort to educate the public about the MCD, the NSW Treasury picked the Bathurst Community Garden as one of three community projects featured in the video.
Bathurst Regional Council deputy mayor Bobby Bourke said the Treasury approached council with the idea of including the garden and filming on site.
“They looked at the website and looked at what was available to the community,” he said.
It’d extend the usability for everyone.

Members of the Bathurst Community Gardens Playgroup, which is held weekly at the site, were invited to be part of the Treasury’s video.
Playgroup member Claire Beech, along with her children Ellie, 5, and Emmett, 3, were among those in the video and she said she hoped it would raise more awareness of the garden and the need for additional funding to construct a shelter.
“It’d extend the usability for everyone,” she said.
Cr Bourke said while the garden had been supported by funds raised at the Bathurst Community Op Shop during the past four years, more support was needed.
“We’re just looking to get that bit of funding for a shelter,” he said.
While the garden might have been involved in the video, it was no guarantee of state funding.
A Treasury spokeswoman said once the NSW Budget had been approved in parliament, it would then be up to the people of NSW to vote on which projects they believed deserve funding.
The Bathurst Community Gardens Playgroup meets every Monday from 10am until noon.
