Two of the classes of the Carillon Junior Theatrical Society will present comedic plays at historic Keppel Street venue The Carrington – and the nerves are starting to kick in.

“For some of them, it's their first show,” the plays’ director Kyle Palmer said.

The primary class will perform Long Tall Lester, a western about the search for a sheriff as an outlaw bears down on a town, and the secondary class will perform The Affairs At Meddler’s Top, a murder-mystery set at a British manor house party.

In the second play, the audience gets to act as the jury to determine a verdict, according to Mr Palmer.

The shows, which are being supported by Carrington owner and local theatre advocate Tim Ellerman, feature costumes, sets and props by Sharon Lockhart.

Mr Palmer said the Carillon Junior Theatrical Society runs drama classes each week and, as part of the classes, the performers put on a show.

He said it was a pleasure to work with the youngsters.

“They are all here because they love drama and love performing,” he said.

“Our goal is to allow them to perform but also allow them to work on and refine their skills and, eventually, transition into amateur theatre.”

Tickets for each night, Friday and Saturday, June 22 and 23, are $28 for adults, $16 for juniors (up to 12 years) and $22 for seniors or concession. Doors will be open from 5.15pm to 5.45pm.

The ticket price includes canapes and a performance by musician Gabbi Bolt.
